Molecular and cell biology is a wide-ranging area that connects us by the common goal of contributing to the improvement of knowledge on life and health. Even though we are often bound to a small part, together we puzzle a comprehensive understanding of biological interactions that require a cross-talk between different fields and pave the way to innovation.

“From gene to genius” marks the first annual symposium of the Doctoral Program in Molecular and Cell Biology. We would like to celebrate this occasion by taking you on a journey throughout the cellular machinery and its extraordinary intertwining in creating life and disease. We will focus on the mechanisms of genomic imprinting and the maintenance of the integrity of genetic information in determining cellular fate as we lead you to the unravelling of the genetic basis for resistance to dengue infection. Along the path of gene transcription and translation, we will then explore the molecular and chemical biology of protein misfolding in nervous system pathologies and look further into the complex metabolic pathways that regulate the production of valuable bioactive compounds.
