EXUBERÂNCIAS DA CAIXA PRETA

a propósito d’ A Expressão das Emoções no Homem e nos Animais de Charles Darwin

The IBMC.INEB, Ciência Viva and ESAD organized the exhibition "EXUBERÂNCIAS DA CAIXA PRETA- a propósito d’ A Expressão das Emoções no Homem e nos Animais de Charles Darwin" at the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis opeaned at 17th of December 2009.

The exhibition was and invitation to reflect upon the Darwin’s book: The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animls. This exhibition coexists between the physical expression of the emotions – stereotyped and deriving from our shared biology – and the extraordinary, and sometimes surprising, exuberance of its representations, inevitably resulting from our cultural and existential multiplicity, in which one reflects the other.

The Last Paradise

Paraísos Indómitos - Una Revisión Del Paisaje is currently exhibiting at Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporâneo in Seville until the 7th of September.

Caio Reisewitz: Goiânia VII (de la serie Reforma Agrária), 2003. Fotografía color, impresión Tipo C sobre diasec, 97,6 x 80,2 cm

There are 46 works on display, including videos, photos, installations and interactive works of 20 artists that explore the relation between Man and nature. The perspectives of this relationship are diverse, romantic and utopian at times. The artists can be seen as a new kind of explorer. They are not conquering unknown places, they are observing, not passively, mostly with political intentions. They denounce actions, decisions that endanger the remaining paradises.

Exhibition “Rede de Residências: arte

ciência e tecnologia”

Ciência Viva and Direcção Geral das Artes | Ministério da Cultura exhibition “Rede de Residências: arte ciência e tecnologia” will showcase works from 8 artists between the 24th of June until the 31st of July 2008 at Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon.

This exhibition is the result of Programa Rede de Residências: Experimentação Arte, Ciência e Tecnologia, an artists in residence programme in scientific institutions launched in 2007 by Ciência Viva and Direcção Geral das Artes | Ministério da Cultura.

The exhibition displays projects from 2007 artists in residence: André Castro, Soraya Vasconcelos, Sónia Moreira, Simão Costa, Patrícia Noronha, Maria Manuela Lopes, Rudolfo Quintas and Virgínia Mota.

André Castro shows “Sonificações”, sound representations of temperature, pressure, moisture and wind, through a simulator developed by the Physics department of Universidade de Aveiro whilst Patricia Noronha’s work reflects on the interactions between artistic and scientific practice. From observation, scientific materials and methods Patricia recreates “scientific objects” in an artistic context. Soraya’s work dealt with the notion of reality built around landscape (P) by gathering materials from the INEB laboratory. She also explored the idea of creating life inside a lab and the search for a new balance in nature. There is also concern with the social dimension.

A clear example of this is the installation created by Maria Manuela Lopes where the public actively interacts with the installation. It is hoped that by participating, the public understands the complexity of the systems, immunological, neurological and artistic.

On the whole, all the projects explore connections, boundaries, a place where science, art and the public meet.

Visit Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon or the Ciência Viva website in order to get to know more about these interdisciplinary projects.
