In recent years, sphingolipids have emerged as key molecules that, besides a structural role, exert signalling functions in the modulation of several cellular processes such as proliferation or apoptosis.

The aim of this symposium on Sphingolipids in Health and Disease is to bring together researchers, students and health professionals to discuss the metabolism and functions of sphingolipids and their role in diseases.

 

The symposium will focus on infection, inflammation, aging, cancer, neurodegeneration and metabolic disorders as well as on how this knowledge can be translated into novel therapeutic strategies. To foster the participation of young scientists, their work can be presented as poster or oral communication (selected from submitted abstracts).

This symposium is scheduled for September 18, 2014 at the Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology, Porto, Portugal.
