Grand Cross of the Order of Saint James of the Sword for Prof Maria de Sousa

Everyone at i3S - and beyond - knows Professor Maria de Sousa. One knows her as a scientist that sets the standard for excellence, as one of the earliest group leaders at IBMC and for her outstanding accomplishments and contributions in the field of Immunology. One may also recognize her as the mastermind behind GABBA.

Public credit was due, so in early 2012 she was appointed Grand Officer of the Order of Saint James of the Sword by then President Cavaco Silva.
Now, no matter her emeritus status, Professor Maria de Sousa is still one of our most distinguished personalities and her merits much surpass her scientific achievements. On November 24th, the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, awarded her the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint James of the Sword, thus crystallizing a lifetime of success.
