The documentary “THE STORY OF AN ERROR”, in which a few IBMC researchers participated, was recently presented – on July 7th – in the International Film Fest “Curtas Vila do Conde”.
Documentário "A história de um erro" (Teaser) from Associação Viver a Ciência on Vimeo.
The film, directed by Joana Barros and produced by Associação Viver a Ciência, revolves around Familial Amyloid Polyneuropathy, a rare genetic disease with prevalence in the North of Portugal.
We still don't know when or where the genetic error responsible for Familial Amyloid Polyneuropathy (FAP) came about, but we do know that it has become engrained in the community of Caxinas not like in any other place on earth. In the process, the "pezinhos's disease", as it is called, has devastated its people without opposition.
It was only in 1952 that these patients became known to the world, up to then there are no records of the number of FAP's victims. After its discovery the disease became the focus of many studies and its results are today giving new and complex shapes to the lives of its sufferers. This documentary is a testimony of how far we came.
