It is estimated that non-globular regions (NGR) or non-globular proteins (NGP) of unknown function encompass approximately 38% of all amino acid residues in the human proteome. The interest of the scientific community in NGPs has increased recently mostly because of growing evidence that these proteins, which defy the traditional sequence-structure-function paradigm, are central to cellular function and associated with many human diseases.

The program for the symposium will cover different aspects of NGRs and NGPs, which due to their intrinsic flexibility and dynamics may assume different shapes. Experimentally, the peculiar nature of NGPs requires a highly specialized plethora of integrated methodologies, while a systematic approach for their classification is mandatory. A panel of invited speakers will present their expert perspectives on NGPs classification, intrinsic disorder, repeat proteins and protein aggregation. Additionally, there will be excellent opportunities for attendees to present their research, both in poster sessions or as oral presentations selected from the poster abstracts.
This meeting is organized in the framework of COST ACTION BM1405 (Non-globular Proteins in Molecular Physiopathology).
