Eukaryotic signaling and bacterial protein toxins

Friday, September 7, 2012
Klaus Aktories
Institute for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Freiburg, Germany

Professor Klaus Aktories is a distinguished researcher in the field of bacterial protein toxins, namely by studying eukaryotic signaling pathways involved in host-pathogen interactions, which are targeted by bacterial protein toxins.

Due to their high specificity and potency, toxins can be employed as cell biological tools to decipher signal pathways in which their targets are involved. These signal pathways are frequently controlled by diverse types of GTP-binding proteins and cytoskeletal proteins such as actin and microtubules.

Professor Klaus Aktories has published more than 500 papers, some of them with more than 500 citations.
