Gabriel Rabinovich, Instituto de Biología y Medicina Experimental (IBYME)/ Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), Argentina
Prof. Gabriel Rabinovich is a Senior Investigator (Investigador Superior) of the National Council Research from Argentina and Full Professor of Immunology (Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos Aires). He is the Head of the laboratoy of Immunopathology at the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine. Member of the National Academy of Sciences (Argentina) and Member of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Deputy-director of the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (IBYME) and Visiting Professor at several universities (Maryland; Paris; Harvard and Miami).
His findings, reported in more than 220 publications in journals such as Cell, Nature Medicine, Nature Immunology, Immunity, Cancer Cell, PNAS, Journal of Experimental Medicine and Cancer Research and presented in 8 patents, allowed the identification of a novel paradigm based on galectin-glycan interactions in the control immunological and vascular programs and the design of novel therapeutic approaches in autoimmune diseases and cancer. His work has been recognized by numerous awards, including the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS, Italy), The John Simon Guggenheim, Foundation Award (USA), Platinum Konex Award, The Bernardo Houssay Award Bicentenary (Argentina), The Bunge & Born Awards in Experimental Medicine (Young and Senior) and was funded by national and international grants including the Cancer Research Institute (USA), National Multiple Sclerosis Society (USA), National Cancer Institute (NCI; NIH; USA), Prostate Action (UK), Wellcome Trust (UK), Mizutani Foundation for Glycosciences (Japan), Kenneth Rynan Fundation (UK).
