IBMC researcher Filipe Pinto is the 2014 laureate of the Fundação Eng. António de Almeida Award. His PhD thesis entitled “Design and engineering of a cyanobacterial photoautotrophic chassis and parts for Synthetic Biology applications” was appreciated by the board of judges and ultimately deemed the winner of this year’s Fundação Eng. António de Almeida Award due to its inventiveness and likely positive repercussions it entails. Along with the honor, Filipe Pinto is rewarded with a 3000€ prize.
Headquartered in FCUP, the foundation was established by Eng. António de Almeida himself with the intent of nurturing culture, education and philanthropy. This award is one of the foundation’s flagship actions and aims at honoring PhD theses that exhibit scientific originality, have a true impact within the scientific community, and have a strong potential for social and economic returns.
