IBMC researcher Olga Afonso among the best PhD students in the world

Olga Afonso, IBMC researcher and PhD student at FMUP, was recently shortlisted for the prestigious ASCB Kaluza Prize, an award granted by the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) and Beckman Coulter Life Sciences to the best PhD students across the globe in the fields of cell biology and basic biological sciences. She didn't get to the final 3, to whom were attributed prizes between $1k and $5k, but she did manage to place among the final 10, which is an extraordinary achievement, particularly considering how she was the only European scientist in ASCB's top 10. Along with other 6 researchers, she was rewarded with the ASCB Beckman Coulter Distinguished Graduate Student Achievement Prize.

The next step for Olga is to take part in the ASCB Annual Meeting, taking place from 6 to 10 December in Philadelphia, USA. This meeting is an opportunity for Olga Afonso and the other finalists to present their work in a mini-symposium entirely devoted to the Kaluza Award.

Congratulations!
