The European Researchers' Night (ERN) has been long missed, but it is back for two more editions, in 2016 and 2017.
No matter where you live or where you'll be on September 30th, there are plenty activities to choose from on Science's biggest night. Aside from Porto and Lisbon, there are 16 other locations awaiting your visit and participation in the many initiatives they're planning for ERN. For the years 2016-2017, the ERN is focused on foresight, exploring alternatives to consider and manage the future with researchers and the public, envisioning new trends of science and technologies and of their impacts on society. Of special concern are the complex problems and challenges that humanity faces: climate change, sustainable energy, food and water supply, ageing and social inclusion, to name but a few of the global trends identified for the next 10-15 years.
It's not required to be a science enthusiast. All you need is a curious spirit and disposition for a fun night. Everyone, regardless of age and areas of interest, will find activities that certainly suit every preference. In Porto, all eyes will be on Planetário - Centro Ciência Viva, which, from 9p.m. to midnight, is opening its doors to visitors, who will have a blast of an evening waiting for them, including a "speed dating" session with a handful of our researchers. Full program is available here.
The European researchers ‘ Night (ERN) brings scientists and the general public together in an informal, playful and educational get-together. The exchange of ideas and experiences that this initiative provides contributes to the clarification of what it means to be a scientist, what is science and what are the main topics of current scientific research. The first edition of the ERN dates back to 2005 in the scope of the European Commission’s framework programme for research and development and the EC has been promoting and funding this initiative that occurs on the same day in several European countries and Israel.
Keep up with the news and program updates in the official website. The ERN is also on facebook.
