International Day of Immunology

Immunology is the word on April 29th!

Instituted in 2005 by the Internacional Union of Immunological Societies, the Internacional Day of Immunology aims to get across to the public the research developed in this field and the breakthroughs achieved thus far. It is celebrated on April 29th and the commemorations aim to engage high school students with the research developed in this scientific area, in Portugal.

This year, and prompted by the Portuguese Immunology Society(SPI), i3S is joining the commemorations, along with IGC, IMM, CNC and ICVS

Luís Graça, president of the SPI, explains the importance of this day: "In the last 20 years, the acquired knowledge in basic research in immunology has revolutionized the way many diseases are now treated - cancer, skin and rheumatic conditions, allergies, or organ transplantation. This is an ongoing effort of many scientists and institutions and, therefore, this year the SPI wants to involve key actors - the scientists -  and introduce their knowledge to the youngsters, with the prospect that the findings will translate into new benefits for health."

Our program encompasses ImmunoTalks and exploratory workstations that span the entire day, from 10h to 17h.

Although the workstations were designed for a high school public, the Immunotalks are open to the in-house and surrounding community.

The program is available here and you may register for the talks at http://goo.gl/forms/SVV8CX3i9F

Meet you there!
