EXPERTISE

The lab is organized into two centres:

1. The Protein expression and purification centre

2. The Biophysics centre for structure and interactions

It has as goals to develop, implement and manage expertise in these two fields with the aim of making it available to the internal and external scientific community in all fields of life sciences.

The whole workflow from sample preparation,  going through quality control and  sample optimization, until biophysical analysis is done in the lab. 

We also aim at bridging the gap with other technologies and work closely with the in house Imaging Facilities (Light and Electron Microscopy).

We work in close collaboration with:

• the Faculty of Sciences (FCUP) Chemistry Department
• the IPATIMUP Proteomics Unit 
• the INEB Service Unit for Interfaces and macromolecules (SUIM) 

with whom we share resources.

Member of:

The Association of Resources for Biophysical Research in Europe (ARBRE) is an open pan-European network which aims to bring together academic and industrial research infrastructures, core facilities and resource labs that provide access to biophysical instrumentation and expertise for the molecular-scale characterization of biological systems

The P4EU (Protein Production and Purification Partnership in Europe) network initiative was started in 2010 to establish a platform for the exchange of information, know-how and materials between core facility labs in the field of protein expression and purification with a major focus on service for various user groups.
